Velvet is a plush winter cloth with a short pile. In Pakistan it is used for frocks, shawls and party wear. It is searched about 1.8 times as much as khaddar, and those searches peak in December. Hamayl Designer Hub does not sell velvet.
Velvet vs cloth we do sell
| Cloth | Hand | At Hamayl |
|---|---|---|
| Velvet | Pile. Looks darker when you brush it the wrong way. | Not in stock |
| Corduroy (kotrai) | Ribs, not a pile. Warm, structured. | Unstitched per gaz |
| Printed khaddar | Cotton winter suit cloth. No pile. | Unstitched per gaz |
| Falalen / flannel | Brushed, for night shirts. | Unstitched per gaz |
A velvet kids frock is a party piece. It is not a school suit and it is not nightwear. December is the month people look for it, with weddings and the coldest weeks.
Other winter names we do not stock yet: marina, dhanak, karandi, cambric, viscose, peach wool.
What to buy instead
The closest textured winter cloth on the wall is corduroy. A warm day suit is printed khaddar. Both are unstitched, by the gaz, with cash on delivery. Use the gaz chart for the child’s age.
